It was interesting. I was riding the pony I lease earlier today. I took him out to the jumping field, which is much farther away from the barn than our ring is and the horses tend to act up there alot. We worked there because he needs some conditioning, muscle-building work, and the whole ring is on a slope. He was very good and energetic and was very responsive to all my aides.
When we were done, Both of us were sweating despite the 37 degree weather and I was very satisfied by the work we had done. The begining to a popular trail on our barn is near the entrance to the jumping ring, and for nothing more than the sake of being spontaneous, I turned him down the start. After about twenty five meters down the trail it opens up into this huge field that belongs to a local farm. Beyond the field there is a road and some man-made hills and behind them is a large man-made lake. It was all very gorgeous, and for a brief moment I was taken back.
Here I was, this girl on the back of a horse with the sun shining on a cold winter day and all I could think of was how beautiful it all was, and how lucky I am simply to be. The feeling I had could not be explained, I don't think there are any words to describe it, especially since I cannot understand it myself. It was so odd for me, and I'm not sure If I relaxed to what, but Cody just turned his head around to my boot, as if to ask me if I was okay. I gave him a rub and we went home, but the whole experience was so odd.
I don't understand how I was so lucky as to get a passion to fall in love with horses and to get the oppurtunity to pursue that. I don't know how I could have gained the trust and love of this particular pony, who looks to me for confidence and so much more. I don't understand it at all, and I guess all I can be is grateful.
